Our Story: A Letter from Alex's Dad
It Started with a Love for Numbers, and My Son, Alex
“Hello, I’m the creator of Big Number Academy, but more importantly, I’m one half of Alex’s parents.
My wife and I are on a journey of incredible highs and challenging lows. Parenting a child who experiences the world differently is filled with days of unique brilliance that take our breath away. There are also days that feel quite isolating, where it seems like no one else could possibly understand. On those days, we lean on each other.
I remember the moment this all started. Alex, who, even very early in his development found such deep joy and calm in the world of numbers, asked me quite a complex numeracy question. Seeing the pure, focused passion in his eyes, I realised he didn’t just need a tool for learning maths—he needed a space where his way of thinking was celebrated, not just tolerated. He needed a world built for him.
That’s how Big Number Academy was born. It wasn’t from a business plan, but from a family’s love. It was built for the quiet moments, for the joy of discovery without pressure, and for the deep, satisfying calm that comes from exploring a world that makes perfect sense.
This page is an extension of that idea. It’s a place for us, parents and families. A place to share the moments of wonder, the tough days, and the little victories. A place to remind ourselves, and each other, that we are not alone.”
